Jio Platforms Limited is preparing an initial public offering to raise approximately Rs 30,000 crore, marking the first share sale from Reliance Industries in three decades. Akash Ambani and Isha Ambani have finished international marketing tours across Southeast Asia, Europe, and the Americas, presenting the enterprise as a technology entity rather than a pure telecommunications operator. Domestic roadshows are presently underway, with local mutual funds and other institutions pursuing allocations.
The planned transaction consists purely of fresh equity without any secondary offer-for-sale portion from existing backers. Current institutional owners—such as Meta through Jaadhu Holdings with 9.98 percent, Google International with 7.73 percent, alongside KKR, the Public Investment Fund, Mubadala, and Silver Lake—do not plan to sell any shares. Several of these partners are seeking to expand their ownership stakes in the company.
Based on earlier calculations, the proposed price band spans Rs 1,065 to Rs 1,119 per share, setting the firm's valuation target as high as Rs 10.3 lakh crore and gross proceeds near Rs 30,200 crore. The draft prospectus submitted in June outlines the issuance of up to 270 million shares, representing around 2.93 percent of the post-issue equity base. Management is working with 19 financial institutions to manage the flotation, including Citigroup, Morgan Stanley, Kotak Mahindra Capital, Axis Capital, and Bank of America.
The subscription timetable anticipates anchor allocations opening on Oct. 19, public bidding running from Oct. 21 through Oct. 23, and trading commencement on Oct. 28, though valuation terms, dates, and pricing details remain open to revision. If completed at the targeted scale, the transaction would exceed the Rs 27,800 crore offering conducted by Hyundai Motor India in October 2024 to become the largest stock offering in the history of the Indian market.
Earlier internal expectations had targeted a valuation near Rs 11 lakh crore, while Motilal Oswal Financial Services had projected Rs 11.2 lakh crore. These targets were reduced after a broader drop across the domestic equity market affected IPO pricing. Motilal Oswal noted that post-issue, parent company Reliance Industries will retain roughly 66.4 percent equity in Jio Platforms, potentially introducing a holding company discount that the brokerage estimates at 18 percent to 36 percent based on enterprise multiple models for retail assets through September 2028.
The transaction will give capital allocators a direct avenue into Jio alongside incumbent peer Bharti Airtel. Analysts note that risks of portfolio diversion from Bharti Airtel remain limited given Jio Platforms' restricted initial free float. Broader industry earnings may also see adjustments, with a projected 15 percent increase in smartphone tariffs anticipated in December 2026 following both Jio's listing and an upcoming capital raising by Vodafone Idea.
